it seems as if there is a lot of talent in the Greater Phoenix Metro area in all genres. From rock to rap to djs and dance groups but i never see phoenix artists sell like major market music, a.k.a. "the industry". yes there are major independents who do sell out mid sized venues, but when was the last time a local headlined cricket pavilion, or jobbing.com arena? shoot when was the last time a local sold out celebrity theater?? jimmy, jin blossoms, whats-her Sparkes maybe? i know there are a few national touring acts like "The Word Alive"(shout out to telle), "bless the fall"(shout out to Jerred) even Willie northpole (no shout out to willie, lol). They are doing good, dont get me wrong, but they still arn't doing "major major" numbers in Phx, their home city. is it Genre, is it promotions, is it public, what is the deal?? I want to know what you think. Fill me in. BC

My opinion is that the "glue" is missing. i dont believe the sheeple are informed enough about new/good/local music cause La Radio doesnt give enough local love.

It's marketing, marketing...and more marketing.

Yea, I think that without marketing, none of these bands/artists etc. can do anything. On their own they are just music (possibly amazing...maybe they suck)...but once a photo shoot comes along for a marketing campaign in magazines and commercials and such...all of a sudden they become "icons". When there is a photo or video of someone on TV or wherever, it makes you feel distant from them, and almost want to be them. So...then they grab you by the balls, and Clear Channel, EMI, and other huge music conglomorits make you buy everything and they make sure you know their artists!
